Will the Cowboys rely more on the Run Game in 09?

Posted by Bravo413 on January 24, 2009 at 12:44 AM

With the emergence of Rookie back Tashard Choice and assuming that both Marion Barber III and Felix Jones return next year fully healthy, will the Cowboys actually rely more on their run attack despite having so many weapons in the passing game?  Clearly when you have guys like Romo, T.O., Witten and Roy Williams in your arsenal it's hard to not be tempted to just air it out.  But if things go well health wise, the Cowboys could have a 3 headed running monster similar to what the giants have.  Thoughts?

There is no question about it. Garrett will rest this team on the backs of the three healthy backs.

Last year was horrible for the running game because of injuries, and now that he got a fresh taste of what it's like to not be able to run the ball, and with how running the ball effectively changes a game through the air, he'll likely go overboard with the run.

We just have to wait and see if it'll be a good change or not. There are ways to make it work, and work well, without going too far in any direction, run or pass.

Good point, and no doubt it feels good to have 3 backs that when healthy, can get the job done. I'm a little worried and paranoid about Felix Jones after what we went thru with Julius Jones. Remember Julius' rookie year? HE was our "wow" factor on offense and we all thought he was our guy. Despite his injuries he ran for like what, 820 yards in 7 games.... I'm pretty sure that's what it was. Remember that game against the Seahawks he had? Went for 198 yards and 3 touchdowns, including the game winner. Then look what happened.....he got those injuries his rookie year and Neeeeever was the same again. I'm praying that does not end up being the case with Felix Jones cause I really like Jones and am very excited about what he can do, if he can stay healthy. That game in week 2 where he ran that kickoff back against the eagles was awesome.

Great point and one that makes sense. However, seeing as how things that make sense never get implemented around here, Dallas will more than likely not follow through. I just hope I am wrong.

Bravo413, Great Blog!! Choice was one of the biggest good surprises of the season. With all three of our running backs healthy, the NFL better watch out!
