Jerry Jones is a GREAT owner! We as Cowboy fans have so much to be grateful to Jerry Jones. There is so much good that Jerry has done for the team, as well as the community. He is a successful business man that is an example for millions. We could easily have become a team like the Raiders, but I credit Jerry Jones for not allowing that to happen. He needs to ensure that it doesn't happen though and right now, we're back on the path to becoming the Raiders. The new stadium, bringing the Super Bowl to Dallas in 2011, bringing the NCAA Final Four to Dallas and everything else he does as an owner are the reasons to have great respect for Jerry Jones as an owner. But you have to separate his responsibilities as Owner of the Dallas Cowboys and General Manager of the Dallas Cowboys.
Accepting that you are the reason that your team is not successful is the hardest thing that a person can do, especially for a person who does not know the meaning of the word failure. A person that has triumphed in almost everything he's done. Jerry Jones is a winner! He is a person with an incredible sense of business. He undoubtedly has shown all of us that he will do whatever it takes to make the Dallas Cowboys Organization successful.
Jerry Jones took a team that was even worse off than it is today and returned it to the glorious team that it once was. The three championships that the Cowboys won in the 90's is a time that will never be forgotten by Cowboys fans around the world and that turn around is all due to Jerry Jones, who believed that he could turn the team around. He took a risk and bought a team that was in a serious decline and turned it around.
The success that the Cowboys had in the 90's was accomplished by the pairing of Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson. Jerry gets credit for being the owner that was willing to take risk, funding the needs of the team and hiring an incredible coach. Jimmy Johnson gets credit for selecting the talent, establishing discipline in the players and getting everyone to work as a team.
Unfortunately, since Jimmy left the team, success has eluded Jerry as the General Manager of the Dallas Cowboys! Now it's time for Jerry to face reality and accept that he needs to step down as the GM of the Dallas Cowboys and to bring in a person who will enable this team to get back to it's winning ways.
No disrespect is meant for Jerry Jones. Just as when Jerry made the very tough decision to fire Tom Landry, it's time for him to make the tough decision to step down from the office of General Manager.
Before you decide whether or not you should sign this petition, ask yourself......Would Jerry Jones, himself, tolerate the performance that this team has delivered over the past 12 years from his GM, if it wasn't him?
